Shiny New Updatessss

Hi folks! Last week, we made some updates to the platform, i.e. improvements on current features, and added a few new ones! Here's the run down:

New Updates
  • In your Overview and Influences sections of your projects, you can now re-order your posts with up/down arrows.
  • We created 3 different project "Types" that you can choose to classify your project: Open-Source, Closed-Source, and Challenge.
  • Now, when you create a project, you can choose to check the "This project is Open-Source" box, which will classify your project as Open-Source, and signify that you plan to share your project files. If you choose not to check this box, your project will be classified as Closed-Source, and will be more of a portfolio project that will not have any project files available for other members to use.
  • Challenge projects give you the opportunity to create your own competition, so you can invite your friends to compete for the winning branch! You can specify a duration in which the Challenge will remain active, and when the clock hits zero, the branch with the most likes wins! If you choose to create a Challenge project, you can specify your own rules that the competitors will follow.
  • We've added a Project Type filer to the home page, so you can choose to see only Open-Source, Closed-Source, or Challenge project types if you'd like.

Watch the video below to see some of these new updates in action!
Here is what the new project creation form looks like:

Planned Feature Additions (NEW STUFF!)
We are very excited to announce some awesome new features and UI/UX design changes that we are currently working on, which will be available on the beta platform very soon! Since our beta launch last month, we have received tons of great feedback and criticism form our increasingly growing community. Our goal is to continue developing and formulating the Modulatr platform according to how our members want to use it.

What to expect in the next update:
  • We have redesigned the entire interface of the platform to have a light/white color scheme, as opposed to the dark grey scheme of the current interface. We believe this will more effectively showcase your beautiful project work, leaving the interface to be clean and undistracting.
  • When creating a project, you will be able to save a draft, and come back later to edit and publish it. Currently, when creating a project, it's immediately published to the platform, which leaves a lot of projects looking unfinished. So, we're fixing that with the new draft feature!
  • For Closed-Source projects, we are removing the bubble diagram and leaving the project panel to be centered on the page. This will allow you to showcase your Closed-Source projects similar to Behance, Dribbble, and other project showcase sites.
  • For Open-Source and Challenge projects, we are adding a draggable bar between the project panel and bubble diagram window, so you can resize either side.
  • Viewing the beta platform on a mobile device is currently pretty terrible, so we are making a few changes to the platform which will allow more responsiveness for mobile devices.

Features we are planning to add in the near future:
  • For Open-Source projects, you will be able to see which members have downloaded your project files. To do this, we are planning to add a list of members who have download files, which will be visible to only the project/branch author under the Files section of their project or branch. We are hoping this will open a line of communication between authors and members who have download files with potential plans of adding a branch to the author's project.
  • We are planning to integrate an optional kanban task board within projects, so members can form teams, assign tasks to particular branches, plan for future work, and democratically manage their projects. The kanban board will have task cards (similar to Trello), where members will have the option to assign themselves or other members responsible for certain tasks, specify due dates, and include task descriptions and files. We think this will be useful for projects that require more structure.
We will share more info on the above future additions in the next few weeks!

Mobile App Development
We have finished the prototype for the Modulatr mobile app, and we are planning to begin development in late first-quarter of this year. We are planning to include many of the same features in the mobile app that are currently available on the current web-app.  More updates to come on the mobile app in our future blog posts, so stay tuned!
